Masterbation

Many people find an outlet for expressing and satisfying their sexual needs through masturbation. Some people grow up with the idea that giving physical pleasure to yourself is wrong, harmful or immature. Think about the following negative and positive statements about masturbation.

Myths:
  • It is selfish and immature.
  • Orgasms from masturbation are not as good as the real thing.
  • You can become addicted to it.
  • It is harmful.
  • Men or Women do not want or need it.
  • You can only do it for yourself.

People may believe some or all of these statements, but none of them are true.

The Positive View:
  • You can learn what kinds of touch you like and then teach your partner.
  • It can help you relax.
  • You and your partner learn to please each other.
  • Some men find it keeps the erection and ejaculation reflexes working.
  • Some women find it can keep the vagina lubricated and can help relieve menstrual cramps.

You may find some of the positive aspects acceptable. Like any form of sexual activity, this requires time, energy and a little imagination.

Giving yourself pleasure safely will not take over your life or interfere with forming a sexual relationship -- it may enhance it.

It could become part of making love together -- stimulating yourself while your partner holds you or lies next to you.

If you do not feel you are worthy of receiving pleasure you may need to think again.

Consider caring for yourself in other ways; personal treats, relaxation, interest, friendships. Why is it not quite right to treat yourself sexually?
